The Plenary Session of the Congress of Deputies will debate the creation of an investigation commission on the so-called "Operation Catalonia", an investigation carried out in Andorra due to the alleged political and police maneuvers of the PP Government outside the system to stop the Catalan independence movement, pointing out corruption at its highest exponents.

The case has caused the accusation in Andorra of the former president of the Government and former leader of the PP, Mariano Rajoy. The neighboring country has also asked Spain to interrogate the former Minister of the Interior, Jorge Fernández Díaz, and the Minister of Finance, Cristóbal Montoro.

The initiative of the investigation commission was registered on June 17 by ERC, Junts, PDECat, CUP, Bildu and BNG to try to clarify "the alleged interference with the sovereignty of Andorra by political and parapolice officials."

Specifically, if the Private Bank of Andorra (BPA) was pressured to obtain confidential information from pro-independence leaders.

PSOE and United We Can have supported this Tuesday the proposal in the Board of Spokespersons. Now, it will be raised to debate in the hemicycle. It is expected that this will go ahead taking into account the guarantees already received in this process. “With this number of supports, the commission will surely go ahead and we will be able to start it up as soon as possible, it is very important that it be constituted”, assured Héctor Gómez, parliamentary spokesman for the PSOE. “We are going to work seriously and rigorously and shed light on something that worries us, we have seen a lot of alarming and worrying information and statements by former ministers on issues that have been denied right here,” he added.

The requesting groups thus argue the creation of this new body in their text: «There are many indications and proofs of the existence of the 'Operation Catalunya'. In fact, some of the alleged perpetrators and perpetrators of it have declared it on several occasions. The existence of this operation would have had no other purpose than to persecute political dissidence and put an end to the so-called 'procés' and the Catalan independence movement through illegal means and using public resources illegitimately.
