In Saxony and Thuringia, thousands of people protested again on Monday, for example against the federal government's energy policy and cost increases. In Leipzig alone, the police reported around 1,300 demonstrators. The Thuringian police did not want to give an estimate of the number of participants in the evening. Reporters from the German Press Agency reported - as in the previous weeks - of lively demo events in the Free State.

The numerous events in both federal states remained largely trouble-free according to the officials on Monday evening. In the previous weeks, several thousand people had already taken to the streets in both federal states.

Posters in Leipzig this Monday said, among other things, "Our country first", "Swords to ploughshares" or "We are the red line". Firecrackers were fired. Eyewitnesses reported that the mood between the political camps was sometimes heated.

The protests have recently become particularly popular in eastern Germany. According to police estimates, more than 100,000 people demonstrated on German Unity Day about two weeks ago at dozens of rallies in Thuringia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
