Protest action: Climate activists paint the Danube Canal in Vienna green

Activists today painted a section of the Danube Canal green in protest at a gas industry conference in Vienna. The harmless uranine, a fluorescent dye, was used, according to the Extinction Rebellion alliance. A few dozen activists also blocked a bridge over the canal.

The alliance had called on people from all over Europe to take part in protest actions in Vienna over the coming days. The protests are directed against the gas industry and its high climate-damaging CO2 emissions. The three-day conference begins on Monday. One of the topics is the new role of liquid gas in the energy mix, according to the website.
