Prospects: Summer weather in October - weekend brings up to 27 degrees

The last weekend in October brought really summery temperatures to Germany: The German Weather Service (DWD) expects up to 27 degrees in the coming days. In addition, there are bright blue skies in many places.

"October is really turning up again on the home straight," said a DWD meteorologist on Thursday in Offenbach. The reason for this is a high over Eastern Europe and a low over the North Atlantic, which allow an "air mass that is unusually warm for the time of year" to flow from Spain to Germany. The highest temperatures will be reached on Friday and Saturday on the northern edge of the low mountain ranges, in Baden-Württemberg and on the edge of the Alps with up to 27 degrees.

However, the values are not record-breaking: The highest temperature ever measured in Germany in the last third of October is 28.6 degrees and was reached on October 26, 2006 in Emmendingen-Mundingen (Baden-Württemberg). "In all likelihood, this value will then be missed," said the meteorologist. From 25 degrees, meteorologists speak of a summer day.

It is currently uncertain how long the beer garden weather can last. According to the DWD, the temperatures are likely to drop slightly in the coming week - with "16 to 21 degrees, it is still far too mild for the time of year," said the meteorologist.
