As part of the citizen energy movement, people from a region come together to generate renewable energy. Among other things, citizen wind farms or citizen solar systems contribute to increasing the proportion of renewable energies.

"In the case of community energy, citizens are the players in the energy transition," emphasized the ministry. The program therefore supports the costs of the planning and approval phase of wind turbines by citizen energy companies. It's about 70 percent of the planning and approval costs, up to a maximum of 200,000 euros per project.

According to the information, the total funding for 2023 is 7.5 million euros, and amounts in the same range are also planned for the years to come.

The ministry points out that the amendment to the Renewable Energy Sources Act, which will also come into force on January 1, 2023, will strengthen community energy. For example, wind and solar projects from citizen energy companies are excluded from the tenders as far as possible.
