A dispute over a €13,000 bottle of champagne that was drunk in a Frankfurt restaurant is being brought to court in Düsseldorf. A man from Neuss near Düsseldorf was a guest there with a group almost a year ago and wanted to give them a "special bottle", as the Düsseldorf Regional Court announced in the complaint.
The waiter responsible for the table offered the man from Neuss a six-liter bottle of Roederer Cristal. The so-called Methuselah bottle has four times the volume of a magnum bottle. The plaintiff claims that the guest enthusiastically accepted the offer at a price of 13,000 euros, opened the bottle himself with a knife and emptied it with the group.
The parties are now arguing about the price: while the waiter and restaurant operator claim to have offered the bottle for 13,000 euros, the defendant claims that a price of 1,300 euros was quoted to him. Because he refuses to pay more, the matter must now be heard in court. The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported.
