Process: knife attack in refugee home: accused remains silent

Because of disputes, he is said to have stabbed his roommates in a refugee accommodation without a word: Since Tuesday, a 32-year-old has had to answer to the Ravensburg district court for murder and multiple attempted murders. A Syrian died in the attack on Lake Constance almost exactly six months ago. Six women and men suffered serious or life-threatening injuries. In court, the defendant remained silent about the crimes. The asylum seeker from Nigeria also did not want to say anything about his CV.

According to the public prosecutor's office, arguments about the house rules and trifles led to the crimes in the accommodation in Kressbronn (Bodenseekreis). The 32-year-old told an expert that he had been harassed while cooking. Roommates had looked into his cooking pots several times, which is why he also called the police.

According to the public prosecutor's office, there was also a dispute about integration. The defendant was therefore of the opinion that roommates of Arabic origin would be better and faster integrated. In order to take revenge on them, on June 26 he is said to have insidiously stabbed the men and women with a kitchen knife for base motives.

Reviewer's report

He told the expert that he felt isolated in Germany. He was offside, he couldn't do anything right and felt rejected. He did not get work and was not allowed to go to school. He has no memory of what he did. He would like to go back to his home country. He has lived in Kressbronn since 2020.

According to the indictment, the 32-year-old had already made the first death threats in February. In May he also rioted in the accommodation and threatened people with a knife. Then he went to a psychiatric clinic. According to the expert, he had told the police officers that he wanted to injure himself with the knife. The expert saw no evidence of mental illness.

There was no security service in the accommodation of the city with its 9000 inhabitants. The Friedrichshafen criminal police had set up a 25-strong investigative team to clarify the course of events. Again and again acts of violence occur in refugee shelters. The Ministry of the Interior in Baden-Württemberg, for example, registered more than 600 cases last year. In the previous year there were more than 850 acts of violence.

The trial of the 32-year-old will continue in January. The family of the killed and other victims joined the proceedings as joint plaintiffs. A verdict could come in mid-February.
