A 22-year-old man has been on trial in the Oldenburg district court since Tuesday because he is said to have murdered his grandmother. The public prosecutor accuses the accused of first choking the woman born in 1941 in Delmenhorst in August 2022 and then killing him with objects, in particular a hammer, as a court spokesman said. The man is said to be suffering from schizophrenia and therefore acted in a state of reduced or non-existent criminal responsibility.

The accused is currently being held in a psychiatric hospital and the court must decide whether he is to be held permanently. At the request of the defense, the court barred the public from the trial. The hearing will resume on February 9th. Then the verdict could possibly already be pronounced.
