Prediction: Roller coaster ride from early summer to late winter

The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts a "roller coaster ride from early summer to late winter" for the next few days. "There are numerous lows in the North Atlantic, just waiting to finally make their way towards Europe," explained DWD meteorologist Lars Kirchhübel on Sunday. At the same time, large fluctuations in temperatures are expected.

On Monday, a warm front will bring rain in northern and central Germany. In the south-west, Mediterranean air can for the first time this year cause the thermometer to rise to up to 22 degrees in Breisgau, while the Baltic Sea island of Rügen is expecting a maximum of 10 degrees. North of the Danube it will be windy to stormy. In the south there can be thunderstorms with squalls and heavy rain - but also sunshine more often. Kirchhübel therefore expects "an early summer feeling, preferably in the south-west half".

Tuesday, on the other hand, will be wintry again. According to the DWD, stormy gusts push cooler air into the country. Wintry thunderstorms can bring sleet. Snowfall is possible again in the mountains. "In the south-west, maximum values are sometimes forecast to be ten degrees lower than the previous day," explained meteorologist Kirchhübel. "Such weather fluctuations are actually typical for April."

According to the forecast, Wednesday will also be late winter with snow showers, only single-digit temperatures and stormy winds in the north and east. "From Thursday it will probably be spring again, maybe early summer," added Kirchhübel.
