Police: Going electric: Police are expanding e-mobility

The Hessian police increasingly want to be on the road electrically. The police headquarters for technology (HPT) in Wiesbaden announced that there are currently 90 pure electric or hybrid vehicles in the fleet. Up to 50 more are to be purchased in the coming year. "Experience to date shows that electric vehicles can already be used successfully in various areas of the Hessian police force," said a spokesman.

In the past six months, officials in central Hesse and Frankfurt had tested two electric motorcycles. The praesidia in Frankfurt and Gießen are currently preparing the field reports, which the HPT then evaluates. The results of the test are expected to be available by the end of the year at the latest. However, it can already be said that the basic advantages of e-motorcycles include their lower weight, higher driving dynamics and quieter driving noise, in addition to the emission-free drive.

The Hessian police fleet comprises a total of around 4,000 vehicles. The proportion of e-cars with 90 copies is currently still low. The HPT spokesman announced that the electrification of the fleet would be "continued successively depending on the charging infrastructure". By the end of the year, around 170 charging points should be available to the police through the State Office for Construction and Real Estate Hessen.

A complete changeover to electromobility is "currently not possible from a technical and police tactical point of view, since not all requirements, in particular payload, range and maximum speed, can be covered".
