Parties: SPD influencer Blaudszun: SPD partly not modern enough

The SPD influencer Lilly Blaudszun sees her party catching up when it comes to attractiveness for young people. "There is often quite a bratwurst mood in the SPD, which is not exactly attractive to young people," said the 21-year-old to the news magazine "Spiegel". Young women in particular see themselves exposed to the same tiring debates in the party. "We're not modern enough there."

Blaudszun had helped shape the state election campaign of Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and also advised the federal party on Internet issues. Shortly after the state elections in September 2021, she shut down her Twitter account with tens of thousands of followers.

The media hype about her person overwhelmed her at the beginning, said Blaudszun. Both she and the party were in an exceptional situation. "The classic party structures are not prepared for digital opinion leaders like me." If you have an office, you get an office. If you don't have one, you have to organize yourself. "It was a challenge at my age, but then I built my own team." Blaudszun is now active as an employee of the German Foundation for Volunteering and Commitment based in Neustrelitz.
