In his speech at the institutional act of the Day of the Region, which is celebrated this Tuesday in Puertollano, the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, has said that he would not have "the slightest problem" in that tomorrow , if someone approves a place in Catalan education or health, they are given a period of two or three years to learn a language that is also official there. "We have to talk about it", -he added-, but what cannot be required is to demand it as a prior condition because otherwise we would be facing an unconstitutional privilege », he stressed.
Page added that the region will end up proposing an initiative so that the fact that the language in some autonomous communities "is not an impediment" for another Spaniard to access a public square is "fully regularized"; that is to say, «that it is not required to speak English more than Spanish in some regions».
After making this proposal, the socialist politician pointed out that there are currently more than 6,000 living languages on the planet and there are some countries that have more than 200 different languages. "What we do not want is for it to be an obstacle", he reiterated, and stressed that "Spanish is not only a right, but it is a duty", and that "the Constitution makes it clear that every Spaniard must know Spanish" . "What I am trying to do is ensure that the law is complied with and I will always defend Spanish as the usual communication language in education throughout Spain, something that some want to discuss."
At this point, he has praised the Spanish language, which, in his opinion, “goes like a motorcycle and is one of the great languages of the world; Spanish does not have to fear anything and there is no real problem with the language, only those who want to create. He added that “in Galicia people speak Galician surely much more than Basque in the Basque Country”, but “in Galicia language is not used as a weapon or as an element of exclusion. Language cannot be a throwing weapon because it is designed for the opposite.
