A pyrotechnic object exploded in a residential building in Jengen (Ostallgäu district) and a 17-year-old was seriously injured in the hand on Friday. The teenager was handling the object when it exploded from circumstances that have not yet been clarified, a police statement said on Saturday. A rescue helicopter flew the 17-year-old to a special clinic.

No other people were injured, a spokesman said. It was initially unclear how the young person could get hold of the objects and whether there was a third-party fault.
