Osnabrück: false gold bars sold in the parking lot: man in court

A 28-year-old is said to have offered fake gold bars on an Internet platform and then sold them. He is said to have met his customers in June 2020 in the parking lot of the Osnabrück Zoo to do business. The 28-year-old has to answer to the district court of Osnabrück from this Friday onwards for commercial fraud. According to the indictment, the gold bars offered were made of 80 percent copper and were therefore of lesser value.

The man had advertised the alleged gold bars under the heading "Gold bars The Perth Mint Australia 1 ounce 31.1 grams 999.9/24 carats". According to the indictment, he had agreed with the buyers, a married couple, on a unit price of 1,450 euros. He is said to have sold a total of 53 fake gold bars for a total price of 76,850 euros in the parking lot.

The defendant admitted the sale and the course of action in court. However, he claims to have pointed out in the ad that it is not pure gold but inferior goods, a court spokesman said.

The defendant is currently serving a year in prison. Last December he was sentenced to four and a half years in prison by the Oldenburg district court for numerous frauds with counterfeit gold, including a further sentence from the Jever district court. The trial is scheduled to continue on November 16.
