The onset of winter has caused a number of accidents and serious disruptions in some parts of Germany. Snow is also expected to fall in some places in the coming days. In the middle of the country up to the southeast there will be rainfall on Tuesday, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced in Offenbach. In the southeast it will rain in low areas until midday, otherwise precipitation in the form of snow is to be expected. In the afternoon the snow retreats to the Erzgebirge and the southeast.
In the northwest and north it remains dry in many places, and the sun also shows up there at times. In the northeast, snow showers are coming in from the Baltic Sea. The highs on Tuesday are between seven degrees in the Upper Rhine and minus one degree in the northeast and east. On Wednesday night it will be widely slippery on the roads with lows between minus one and minus eight degrees.
“In the following days it will remain unstable with a wintry character,” said DWD meteorologist Tanja Sauter. Snow and sleet are expected to fall again in areas. Light snowfall is possible on Wednesday from central Germany to the east, even at low altitudes. Meteorologists expect snow showers on the coast. Otherwise it will remain sunny, especially on the edge of the Alps people can look forward to longer sunny periods. The maximum values are between freezing point and six degrees on the Upper Rhine. In the north and northeast, weather models predict permanent frost at zero to minus two degrees.
According to the DWD, on Thursday precipitation will spread from the southwest to the middle of the country, where it can snow even at low altitudes. In the south it is said to rain often, in Bavaria and in the higher mountains, caution is advised on the roads: there, according to the information, there is a considerable risk of slippery conditions. In the north it is expected to be dry and sunny at times in many places.
