"At the moment, one person has lost his life, he died in the ambulance, and there are three wounded," Belgorod region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on the Telegram messaging app.

He said the situation was "the most difficult" in his region since Russian President Vladimir Putin sent troops to Ukraine on February 24.

Mr. Gladkov accused Ukraine of having targeted the village of Solokhi, specifying that a house had been partly destroyed.

Authorities in Ukraine's border regions regularly accuse kyiv forces of launching attacks against Russia.

In April, Mr Gladkov accused Ukrainian helicopters of attacking a fuel depot in Belgorod.
