On June 18 the cows return through the Tagus to Trillo

Three years later, through a pandemic, Trillo will once again enjoy its cows along the Tagus River next Saturday, June 18, starting at 6:00 p.m. There is great expectation, so it is expected that the trillana riverbank will be filled with runners, floats, mats and, in general, a color that is the main act of the Chica Fair and the welcome to summer.

«There are wins not only in Trillo, but in all of Guadalajara; They've been asking us for months from all over, "says the president of the Peña Taurina Vacas por el Tajo, Quique García, who organizes the celebration together with the City Council. "We are looking forward to the day, but we also want to send a message of respect and prudence: total respect for the animals and prudence for the runners because they do not stop being horned and the danger of being gored is the same as if they were bulls," Garcia adds.

This year seven cows will be released in one of the few river arenas in the world. The peña has bought three cows with peach, black and white hooded fur from the José María López ranch, which grazes in Almoguera, while the City Council has acquired the other four, chestnuts, from the Hermanos Ustarroz ranch from Navarra.

Quique García explains that the chosen cows have to be big and strong, not too young nor too old, in addition to having great resistance and strength, as they spend several hours on the riverbank, from time to time they submerge in the banks of the Tagus and They withstand a large influx of people. "We choose cows that have a face, that is, that are big in horns and body, and that are old, but not old," says the president of the club. All this year are seven years old, except one who is younger.

Meanwhile, former trimmer Francisco Henche 'Paco de Trillo', a member of the club's board, will collaborate so that the celebration runs as smoothly as possible, being attentive to the welfare of the animals and also to the needs, setbacks or problems of the runners. Other members of the rock will be located in the bullpens and coordinating the release of the cows.

Likewise, the councilor for Festejos de Trillo, Hugo Pérez, affirms that the security device will have more than 50 people between the Civil Guard, Civil Protection, the Special Group for Underwater Operations (GEAS), emergency health teams, members of the Celebrations and municipal employees. To prevent the main roads of the municipality from collapsing, several car parks will be set up outside the town center and visitors will have to access the town on foot.

Pérez asks the attendees, above all, "respect for animals." «It is a unique celebration and if we take care of it we will have it for many years; if not, we already know that problems arise very quickly and we will stop having it », he warns.

Along with the cows on the Tagus, the 15th edition of the 'ToroAlcarria' Bullfighting Photography Contest, a very popular contest in Trillo, also returns. Javier Muñoz, head of the bullfighting portal, encourages those present to participate: "That everyone has the camera ready to take that vivid, colorful photo that represents the celebration, highlighting the nature of our Tagus River next to the runners." Full details of the contest will be announced in the coming weeks.
