Number of cases: Corona incidence in Lower Saxony at 286.5

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the corona incidence in Lower Saxony fell to 286.5 on Saturday. The day before it was 293.9, a week ago it was 317.9. The figure expresses how many new infections per 100,000 inhabitants have been reported in the past seven days. However, as of Saturday, 3,169 more Covid-19 cases were also added, and 28 people died from or related to the virus.

There was no current data on Saturday for the so-called hospitalization incidence, which measures the number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within a week. On Friday, the average value for all Lower Saxony municipalities was 7.8 - this is also a decrease compared to the previous week (8.8). The same applied to the occupancy of the intensive care beds with people suffering from Covid 19. On Friday it was 2.6 percent, a week earlier 3.6 percent of the intensive care capacities had been utilized.

The data do not fully reflect the infection situation. Experts assume a high number of cases that are not recorded by the RKI - mainly because by far not all infected people have a PCR test done. However, only positive PCR tests count in the infection statistics. Late registrations or transmission problems can also lead to a distortion of daily values.

In the smallest federal state of Bremen, the seven-day incidence was 259.0. On Saturday last week it stood at 338.5. There were 308 confirmed new infections, but no deaths.
