NRW: Men crack on-board bistro in the ICE

Hunger, thirst and desperation must be quite great to crack an on-board bistro of a Deutsche Bahn (DB) train. But that is exactly what happened, as the federal police reported on Tuesday.

She was called to Platform 4 at Cologne Central Station early Monday morning, where the ICE 920 from Koblenz had just arrived. Two men from Osnabrück, 25 and 26 years old, broke open the roller door of the bistro counter at around 2 a.m. and ate various foods before they were caught by railway employees.

The federal police officers found the two suspects when they were still sitting amidst various foods, drinks and empty packaging. The value of the banned meal was said to be around 45 euros. In addition to sweets and other food, the hungry duo also had a beer, but refused a breath alcohol test and did not want to comment on the facts, according to the federal police.

After being briefed, the men, who have not yet appeared to the police, were allowed to leave, but are looking forward to preliminary proceedings in a "particularly serious case of theft".
