A serious accident happened on a train near Nördlingen in Swabia. A woman was trapped several kilometers in an outside door and dragged along. She suffered serious injuries to her feet, legs and upper body, the police said on Tuesday. She is in the hospital, but her life is not in danger.

According to initial findings, the 39-year-old got off the regional train on Monday evening between Donauwörth (Bavaria) and Aalen (Baden-Württemberg) at a stop on the side facing away from the platform. When she realized her mistake and wanted to get on the train again, the train door closed and the train started.

Her hand was caught in the door while the woman was still outside the train. A train attendant discovered the 39-year-old while driving and initiated an emergency stop.

According to a police spokeswoman, it is still unclear exactly how many kilometers the woman was dragged along. The course of the accident is still uncertain. The train was secured by the police and the criminal police are investigating.
