Neracais has two schools right along the water

On Tuesday May 24, the Albret Community (1) environmental service invited the primary schools of Sainte-Maure-de-Peyriac and Poudenas to come and spend the day on the banks of the Gueyze, in Sos. This is an effort to raise awareness among children about the fragility of aquatic environments and the biodiversity that they provide.

The site chosen is a municipal floodplain located in Sos on the banks Gueyze stream. It was managed by Albret Communaute under a Natura 2000 contract and in agreement with the town hall.

These actions include manual mowing and export of residues by students at the agricultural school at end of summer, digging a pond in October 2021, installation of an information panel, and public awareness.

46 students from CP to CM2 were split into groups for this school activity. They had to choose between different workshops: the riparian forests (vegetation that borders aquatic environments), small water creatures and dragonflies, as well as the inhabitants of the pond. Students are encouraged to participate and play.

(1) This community service is responsible for environmental issues on the Albret and, in particular, the management of aquatic environments.
