Music: Pop singer Frank Schöbel does without beer and sausage

The pop singer Frank Schöbel pays a lot of attention to his diet. "You don't just have to watch your diet in old age, but as early as possible," said the musician, who is still often on stage, shortly before his 80th birthday of the German Press Agency. "The plan is: hardly any alcohol, no beer, hardly any meat, no sausage, lots of vegetables - that's the plan. It's ignored once or twice a year." However, he is not a good cook: "I can boil water or potatoes well and can fry, otherwise I prefer to eat," said the singer.

Schöbel's career began 60 years ago in the GDR. He was considered the "singing sunny boy of socialism". He now has more than 600 titles in his own repertoire. On December 11th he will be 80 years old. He is on stage on his birthday and many other evenings in December. Schöbel lives in Berlin-Köpenick.
