The incumbent Mayor Christian Thieme (CDU) prevailed in the mayoral election in Zeitz (Burgenland district). He received 57.6 percent of the votes cast on Sunday, as the city administration announced in the evening. Four other candidates stood for election. The second-best result was achieved by Andreas Huke (independent) with 16.2 percent. Around 28,000 people currently live in the town of Zeitz, and 23,500 are eligible to vote. According to the city administration, voter turnout was 39.9 percent.
