Municipalities: Bernd Albers remains mayor in Stahnsdorf

The mayor of Stahnsdorf, Bernd Albers (Citizens for Citizens), will remain in office for another eight years. In the runoff vote for the mayoral election on Sunday, he received 52.2 percent, as the municipality announced on its website. His challenger, CDU candidate Richard Kiekebusch, got 47.8 percent. The voter turnout was 53.6 percent. The community in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district southwest of Berlin has around 16,500 inhabitants. Albers has been the full-time mayor there since 2008. The new term begins on July 5th.

Albers achieved 44.9 percent in the first round of the election two weeks ago. The CDU candidate got 28.3 percent. SPD candidate Tina Reich came in just behind with 26.9 percent. Because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the first round, there was a second round. Around 13,200 eligible voters were called to vote.
