Montreal: possible drowning in the St. Lawrence River

A person is said to have disappeared in the waters of the St. Lawrence near the Jacques Cartier wharf, in the Old Montreal area on Friday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m., a call was made to 911 regarding a possible drowning in the St. Lawrence River. Witnesses said a man in his 30s had difficulty swimming and staying on the surface before disappearing into the water.

When they arrived, the police did not locate the victim in the water, explained the media relations officer of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) Caroline Chevrefils.

The SIM and SPVM nautical patrols, as well as the coast guard, were still looking for the man around 6 p.m. Friday.
