Montero, on the return of the emeritus: "The important thing is that more and more people do not understand the usefulness of the monarchy"

MADRID, 16 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister for Equality, Irene Montero, stated this Monday that, beyond the "headlines" generated by the return to Spain of the King Emeritus, "the most important thing is that there are more and more people in Spanish society who do not understand the usefulness of the institution of the monarchy and who would like the Head of State to also be democratically elected".

Montero, in statements to the SER network collected by Europa Press, stressed that Spanish society is demanding "decided measures for deepening democracy" on many issues, not only with regard to the monarchy.

"We have the responsibility to deepen democratic guarantees," the Minister for Equality asserted in an interview with the journalist Angels Barceló.
