Monica Lierhaus: presenter returns to TV

Monica Lierhaus (52) will soon appear on television again. As the broadcaster RTL announces on its website, "several projects" are being planned with which the journalist and presenter should return to TV. Between 2004 and 2009, Lierhaus was responsible, among other things, for moderating the "Sportschau".

One of the first assignments for Lierhaus on RTL should soon be the Special Olympics in Berlin. A theme week on "inclusion" is planned, during which Lierhaus will report.

Stephan Schmitter, program director at RTL Germany, also confirms the moderator's commitment. "An extraordinary woman and a very good journalist. It's nice to see that she is very keen to return to the camera for us," he said in an interview with the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung". He specifies that the planned projects with Lierhaus are formats in the sports sector.

In 2019, Lierhaus announced her TV break for the first time. "I'm 49 now. When I'm 50, it's over in front of the camera. I'll have to think about something," she said in an interview with "Bild am Sonntag" at the time. In 2009, the presenter was diagnosed with an aneurysm while preparing for eye surgery. There were complications during the removal, and Lierhaus had to be placed in an artificial coma for four months. In rehab, she had to learn to swallow, eat, and move again.
