It will give free cybersecurity training to 10,000 people

The president of Microsoft, Brad Smith, has assured this Friday in Madrid that the data region of the American company will be operational in a matter of months, with three data centers located in the town of Madrid.

Specifically, the president of the American giant announced at the breakfast organized by APD that the expansion of this area will entail the construction of these facilities in Algete, Meco and San Sebastián de los Reyes, located to the northeast of the Community.

Smith has highlighted the growth of the Spanish economy and the acceleration of the migration of companies to the cloud in the two years that have passed since the company announced the opening of its region in the country in 2020.

The director visits the country as part of his European tour and will meet this Friday with the First Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño; the third vice president and minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera; the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto; and the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles.

"The expansion plan on which we are already working gives an idea of ​​Microsoft's investment commitment in Spain and of our confidence in the growth of the demand for cloud solutions by Spanish organizations", highlighted the president of Microsoft Spain, Alberto Granados, in a statement.

Smith has stressed that, thanks to this cloud region, the data of Spanish companies and governments will be hosted in Spain, unlike now, when they are in Amsterdam or Dublin. Likewise, he has stressed that the new region will result in lower latencies when providing services.

Likewise, it has shown its hope that this new data center will strengthen collaboration in cybersecurity with the Spanish Government.

The company plans to invest 12,000 million dollars (11,346 million euros) in building data centers in 17 European countries.

Microsoft will also provide free training to certify more than 10,000 people in cybersecurity in collaboration with the State Foundation for Employment Training (Fundae). The project will target the unemployed and workers with 'reskilling' needs.

Smith has highlighted that this is an action along the lines of those that Microsoft has carried out in other countries and has highlighted that for many jobs related to cybersecurity it is not necessary to complete a four-year degree.

Likewise, he has emphasized that companies in the sector have 26,000 unfilled vacancies in Spain due to a lack of talent in this field.

The president of Microsoft has also shared his vision on the regulation of large technology companies, which he has branded as inevitable.

"The regulation of technology is coming. It doesn't matter if you like it or not, it's here. So you focus on adapting to it," he said.

The manager has recognized the impossibility of reading all the terms and conditions to transfer the data by citizens and has highlighted that, despite its positive impact, nobody "has time" to carry out requests about the information that companies collect of the users.

In this field, the difficulties posed for the company by the fragmentation of regulations around privacy at an international level have slipped.

Likewise, it has marked Microsoft's profile as a partner in business transformation after slipping that the company "will not use the data" to compete against its customers, nor does it plan to "open banks or pharmacies", in a veiled allusion to other big tech giants such as Amazon .

Smith has highlighted that all sectors have to face great "challenges" in order to achieve a net carbon economy and has called for improving the criteria for accounting for emissions to make it more financially attractive to take sustainable measures.
