The repair works that have been carried out since June of last year on the Castro viaduct of the A-6 motorway, at the height of the municipality of Vega de Valcarce in Bierzo, have suffered a spectacular collapse when one of the beams that holds the bridge deck broke for reasons that are still unknown causing the collapse of the third span of the viaduct. According to sources from the Government Subdelegation in León, the event has not caused any personal damage, since the affected road is closed to traffic although there were workers in the area.
Those responsible for the work are already investigating the possible causes. It should be remembered that the repair work on this viaduct, located at kilometer 431 of the motorway, took place last June and continues to cause certain traffic restrictions in the area. The intervention on this bridge more than a year ago was ordered by the ministry after permanent reviews detected serious structural failures, for which immediate repair was necessary, reports Ical.
