Lower Saxony: feared radioactive radiation: mysteriously glowing ball triggers fire brigade operation

On Saturday, a citizen in Hage, Lower Saxony (Aurich district), made a strange discovery: the man had found "a glowing ball" in his garden. Concerned, he reported the find to the police – and triggered an ABC alarm as a result.

The police officers first looked at the mysterious metallic ball, but remained at a loss for the time being and informed the fire brigade. Since there was a suspicion of radioactive radiation, the fire brigade's ABC train was deployed, the police said.

An NBC alarm warns of impending dangers from nuclear, biological or chemical warfare agents. Firefighters checked the bullet and found no radiation. After about an hour, the all-clear followed: The object is said to have been just a decorative ball, which mysteriously glowed due to a certain incidence of light.
