Eight days after the fire in a barn in the village of Ohlenstedt (Osterholz district, Lower Saxony, around 20 kilometers north of Bremen), a charred body was discovered in the burned-out building - although the Verden/Osterholz police station reported on the day of the fire: "Injured according to the current status, nobody became." Now a turning point in the case. It is not known why the body might have been overlooked.

The body discovered over the weekend had already been autopsied, a police spokesman told Stern on Tuesday morning. In view of the ongoing investigation, he initially did not want to provide information on the possible cause of death, but there are no indications of a criminal offense – “as of now”.

The investigators of the Central Criminal Service are also in the process of clarifying the identity of the dead person. The only thing that is certain so far is that nobody is missing in the 600-inhabitant district of Osterholz-Scharmbeck.

The fire brigade and police were called to the burning barn at around 4 a.m. on the morning of March 16. "In the course of the operation, parts of the roof structure collapsed," said the fire department. According to the information, the fire also destroyed a tractor and other vehicles, among other things. The investigators gave the property damage at 350,000 to 400,000 euros. "Officials from the Osterholz Criminal and Investigation Service will take over further processing," it said a few hours after the fire. The location of the fire was also examined.
