Quebecers who take to the road for the long weekend will have to exercise caution since the spring flood of water has already done damage in some regions, suggested the Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks in a press release.

“The thaw period and the precipitation of the last few days in certain sectors could have consequences on the stability of the roads”, he indicated.

Quebecers should also remember good practices to adopt when road conditions are poor, particularly in flood-prone areas.

Adapt your driving to the road conditions and don't just rely on the speed limit. On an unstable road, the 70 km/h limit can quickly become dangerous.

If you are driving on an isolated road, bring warm clothes, a first aid kit, durable food and the necessary survival equipment in case something goes wrong. In addition, cellular networks are not active everywhere. Bring a good old road map just in case.

Adapt your speed when you approach a bridge and give way to heavy vehicles. Don't risk crossing a closed bridge: if it's not open, it's not safe.

“To find out about the condition of roads in the forest environment or to report damage to roads, bridges and culverts in the forest, you can contact the regional offices of the MFFP,” the ministry pointed out.
