Life cycle assessment: Artificial fuel from green electricity: Is the e-fuel story true – or would you rather drive an e-car?

The EU Parliament has decided that from 2035 only new cars will be permitted that do not emit any greenhouse gases. E-cars meet this requirement, which is why almost all political parties rely on them. Just not the FDP. She vehemently advocates combustion engines and wants to fill them up with e-fuels. These, the liberals argue, would ultimately be generated with renewable electricity and CO2 from the air and are climate-friendly. They are not to be confused with biofuels made from corn, canola and other crops.

Everyone who suspects electric cars applauds. Only: is the e-fuel story true? Could we simply continue to drive our petrol and diesel engines as before if we replaced the old fuel with synthetic?
