LGTBI Pride Day 2022 in Valencia: when is it celebrated and program of activities

On the occasion of the celebration of Pride Day 2022, the Valencia City Council projects an image of an "open, diverse and egalitarian" city that "works day by day for freedom and human rights". This was indicated this Monday by the mayor for Equality and Gender and LGTBI Policies, Lucía Beamud, at the presentation of the campaign organized for said commemoration.

Before the press conference in which he announced the planned activities, he visited, in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, a bus from the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) decorated with vinyl on the occasion of Pride Day 2022, according to informed the council in a statement.

The EMT buses prepared for this campaign will circulate through the streets of the city with these vinyls "to make visible the Pride of the LGTBI collective".

In addition, different municipal buildings will be illuminated with the colors of the rainbow.

Among the planned proposals is an exhibition, open between this day and June 28, of the different designs with which in recent years, since 2017, the consistory has claimed "the rights of LGTBI people and the wealth of diversity”.

The sample, on a flag with the colors of the rainbow, refers to the Valencia World Design Capital 2022. «It is one of the actions of the municipal Pride Day campaign that the city celebrates this year as a benchmark in terms of inclusion, equality and freedom" and in order to "make visible, normalize and break hate speech", assured Lucía Beamud.

The municipal official spoke of the Valencian capital as a city that "looks at its diversity with a smile" and explained that the City Council is organizing the Pride Day campaign this year under the slogan 'Where we celebrate pride is here'.

"It is an authentic appeal to the feeling of the city and a call to the citizens to feel it as such: open, diverse, egalitarian and that works every day for freedom and human rights", has detailed Lucía Beamud, who has stated that "Valencia is the proud city of pride".

The municipal official has released the images designed by the Dear José Alfredo agency to show “symbols of the city, emblematic places in which there is space for everyone and from where everyone is welcomed and integrated. ».

Beamud added that the campaign is "a vindication of public space, the street and the squares as a setting for the free expression of gender and sexual orientation." He has indicated that there will be 80 billboards, 3,000 A3 posters, video and promotion in the press, radio and social networks to publicize his program.

Likewise, the mayor has indicated that "3,000 stickers will be distributed so that entities, organizations and associations feel proud of pride by displaying them in their shop windows, windows or entrance doors." In this awareness and visibility campaign, they are also invited to "hold the hand of whoever wants".

In addition, within the framework of all these initiatives, the City Council is painting 145 new benches with different emblems such as the LGBTI, bisexual, trans and lesbian flag in different parts of the city. Beamud has pointed out that these are "public spaces that have to be benchmarks in the fight against any type of discrimination" and that citizens must "perceive them as safe places for everyone".

"Through visibility we combat speeches that even turn into physical attacks", highlighted the councilor, who recalled that the City Council finalizes and will have the city's first LGTBI Plan before the end of the year. It is a document that has had more than 30 associations of the third sector in a participatory process, she has said.

Lucía Beamud has also commented that the City Council will celebrate an act with the General Directorate of Equality and Diversity of the Generalitat to commemorate the pride. Thus, she explained that "in the Plaza del Mercado, where Margarida Borrás, current icon for the defense of LGTBI rights, was hanged because of her gender identity", there will be "a tour of the development of pride in the city ».
