King Juan Carlos I lands in Vigo after almost two years away from Spain

VIGO, 19 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

King Juan Carlos I has landed this Thursday in Vigo after almost two years outside Spanish territory, after he left the country on August 3, 2020 aboard a private jet to settle in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).

More than 650 days later, the king emeritus has set foot on national soil again around 7:00 p.m. this afternoon, arriving at Vigo's Peinador airport on a direct private flight from Abu Dhabi.

After some eight hours of flight and more than 6,000 kilometres, Juan Carlos I has chosen the Vigo aerodrome to return to Spain. From there, he traveled by car to the Pontevedra town of Sanxenxo, where it is expected that Don Juan Carlos will make his first public appearance around noon on Friday when he attends a welcome ceremony at the Sanxenxo Yacht Club, where he will be received friends and the mayor of the municipality, Telmo Martín.

Hours before, this Thursday around 5:00 p.m., the Infanta Elena landed in Peinador on a commercial flight from Madrid. The emeritus and his daughter will stay for the weekend in a house that Pedro Campos, businessman and president of the yacht club, has in the Nanín area, where he has already spent the night "many times." As his friend explained, the plan for the weekend will be mainly "homemade", although it will also depend on whether he feels like going out.
