Justice: speeding accident: driver and passenger in court for murder

A suspected car racer has to answer to the court in Augsburg today for murder. The 28-year-old man is said to have driven on a state road at up to around 200 kilometers per hour. He is said to have thrown his car into oncoming traffic and killed a woman. The 29-year-old passenger who caused the accident must answer in the trial before the Augsburg district court for aiding and abetting murder. He is said to have cheered on the driver during the frenzy.

The 240 hp car of the main defendant got into the oncoming lane near Monheim in northern Swabia (Donau-Ries district) in April 2021 and drove head-on into the car of a 54-year-old. The woman died at the scene of the accident and the two men were seriously injured.

The public prosecutor assumes that the 28-year-old was about twice as fast as allowed and therefore lost control of his vehicle. He is said to have raced at 185 to 204 km/h in the meantime. At the collision he is said to have been between 138 and 153 km/h. He is said to have been indifferent to the deaths of other people while driving. According to the indictment, he had consumed cannabis and was therefore also unfit to drive.

The accident driver and his passenger are also charged with a prohibited motor vehicle race resulting in death or aiding and abetting. The accused, both German citizens, also have to answer for illegal drug trafficking.

Defense counsel for the main defendant announced that he wanted to overturn the prosecution's murder charge. Lawyer Moritz Bode did not want to comment in detail before the proceedings. However, it is about getting away from the accusation of killing, he emphasized.
