Justice: judge wants to bring the process against Boateng to an end

The trial of soccer star Jérôme Boateng is due to end on Wednesday, according to the court. Presiding judge Andreas Forstner said that he was planning to bring the proceedings against the allegation of bodily harm "to an end today".

He called on the defense not to artificially prolong the process with numerous requests for evidence. The public prosecutor accused Boateng's lawyers of only wanting to "wash dirty laundry".

The 34-year-old Boateng is accused of insulting, hitting and injuring his then partner on a Caribbean vacation in 2018. The district court in Munich had sentenced him to a fine of 1.8 million euros last year. Because all those involved in the process appealed against this verdict, the appeal process started in October.

Boateng, who denies the allegations but did not speak out in court this time, had twice expressly rejected the offer of the Munich I Regional Court to withdraw the appeal in the matter and only negotiate the sentence. The court had originally scheduled only two days of trial, Wednesday was already the third day of the trial.
