The public prosecutor accuses the man of rape, deprivation of liberty and dangerous bodily harm. The crimes are said to have taken place between January and May 2022 in his shared room in Konstanz. At the beginning of the trial last Thursday, he declined to comment on the allegations.

"I was the scapegoat for everything that bothered him," the then 18-year-old sister said in a June 2022 hearing played in court. "He took all his anger out on me." She joined the process as a joint plaintiff, but has meanwhile made use of her right to refuse to testify.

Victim speaks of torture

According to the indictment, the young woman is said to have been tied up in the shared room again and again. The 21-year-old is said to have hit his sister with fists, cables and other utensils almost every day. He is said to have pulled out her hair and burned her with a hot knife. He is said to have poured citric acid on the burns to increase the pain.

In the video interrogation, the 19-year-old keeps talking about torture and crying. He is said to have raped her on five evenings in early to mid-May. He is said to have always told his parents that his sister was fine. According to a police officer who was called as a witness, the two roommates had no idea of ​​the crime either.

From Syria to Constance

The defendant brought his sister to Konstanz because she was supposed to help him move from one flat share to another. The teenager lived with her parents and five other siblings in a refugee camp in Schwäbisch Gmünd. The man came to Germany from Syria in November 2015. His family followed in 2021.

The accused was arrested on May 13 after a tip from the local police. The officials had to come to the accommodation because of him. There he is said to have physically abused his other younger sisters and brothers. But there was no sexual assault.
