Jaume Guardiola will leave Barça's economic commission if he agrees to preside over the Cercle

Jaume Guardiola, one of the two candidates to preside over the Cercle d'Economia after the elections to be held on July 12, has informed the president of Barça, Joan Laporta, that if he is elected he will leave the presidency of the Economic Commission of the club. This body has a consultative and collegiate nature and, among other functions, prepares regular reports on the economic situation of the club, follows the preparation of audits and prepares reports prior to certain decisions in these areas. Guardiola agreed to that position after Laporta's victory, in the spring of last year, and at his proposal.

Guardiola explained to the president of Barça that, in the event of victory over Rosa Cañadas, the other candidate, in the campaign to preside over the Cercle, the full dedication that this would entail would prevent him from continuing as head of the aforementioned commission regulated in the club's statutes and which is also very time consuming.

These require that their members be "members of the Club of recognized prestige and experience in economic and wealth management." Guardiola has spent his entire professional career in the banking field.

First as a member of the senior management of BBVA, especially linked to its expansion in Latin America, and later as CEO of Banc Sabadell, with Josep Oliu as president. The candidate to preside over the Cercle left the position in the Vallesan bank at the end of 2020.

In addition to his relationship with Barça, Guardiola has been president since July 12, the same day as the elections in the Cercle, but a year before, of the Board of the Fundació de Esade. This is one of the two great business schools in Barcelona, together with IESE.

The elections to elect the new president of the Cercle were called by its Board at the last meeting last Thursday, May 12. The statutes establish a period of two months between the call and the celebration. And a month to announce the candidates.
