Ice-cold refreshment: Frozen Aperol Spritz: Lightning recipe for the fruity summer cocktail

A refreshing Aperol Spritz really invites you to dream – of holidays in Italy, sunsets by the sea and sweet cocktails at the beach bar. The frozen version of the popular aperitif is twice as refreshing and cools down effectively.

Especially in summer, when the hot temperatures make us sweat, a refreshing cocktail is a wonderful way to cool off in the evening. A classic for this is the Italian long drink Aperol Spritz. The drink originally comes from the Italian region of Veneto, where it has been enjoyed as an aperitif in the early evening for decades.

However, a simple trick gives the popular drink a new coat of paint and makes the fruity-bitter cocktail a lot more exciting. The ice-cold version of the classic is prepared differently, but it certainly tastes just as good and cools down twice as well.

The crushed ice is particularly suitable because it melts quickly and skilfully softens the hardness of the cocktail. You can also use ice cubes for your cocktail on balconies. The ice ensures a lasting coolness and gives the cocktail an unmistakable consistency that is reminiscent of the iconic slush ice cream at the fair. Cocktail and dessert in one, so to speak - it doesn't get any better than that, right?

Aperol is a liqueur with a fruity-bitter note. It is a mixture of rhubarb, cinchona bark, yellow gentian, bitter orange and aromatic herbs with an orange-red colour, which give the drink its characteristic colour. The German version contains - in contrast to the Italian version with eleven percent - a full 15 percent alcohol. Prosecco gives the Aperol Spritz its sparkling note.

The preparation for the Frozen Aperol Spritz is quick and promises quick refreshment. In any case, you'll get through the summer well chilled - and if it's a long time coming, the ice-cold drink at least gives us the feeling of vacation, warmth and sunshine.
