How to obtain financial aid from the State having worked for less than a year

The coronavirus pandemic has seriously affected employment in our country. Although it seems that with the end of the restrictions we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, the truth is that there are many who are still unemployed and have to resort to a contributory benefit to be able to meet the expenses of their day to day.

Having worked and contributed at least 360 days within the 6 years prior to the legal situation of unemployment is one of the essential requirements to collect what is known as unemployment. However, many of the current unemployed have not even been able to work for a year, so they cannot access this help.

Despite this, the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) has a subsidy for those who have worked for less than 12 months. The number of months contributed and family responsibilities can affect the duration of this financial aid from the state.

These are the requirements to apply for unemployment benefits if you have worked or contributed for less than a year:

However, the duration of the subsidy will not be the same for all those who can access this economic aid from the State. In fact, it will depend a lot on the number of months quoted and the family responsibilities that each person has.

In cases where the applicants have family responsibilities, the subsidy will last 3,4, or 5 months if they have contributed 3,4, or 5 months, respectively. If you have contributed for 6 or more months, the subsidy will last 21 months (in this case, the right will be recognized for six months, and can be extended for periods of 6 months until its final duration).

If they do not have family responsibilities, the subsidy may last up to 6 months if they have contributed for 6 or more months.

On the other hand, in the case of discontinuous permanent workers, the duration of the subsidy will be equal to the number of months of unemployment contributions in the year prior to the request.

This monthly amount of the subsidy will be equal to 80% of the public indicator of income for multiple purposes (IPREM): about 463 euros per month. In the event that the work was part-time, the amount would depend on the proportion of hours worked in the last contract.

During the receipt of the subsidy, the SEPE will enter the Social Security contributions corresponding to health care benefits and, where appropriate, family protection.

To request this unemployment subsidy, the application must be submitted within 15 working days, which will start counting from the day following the legal situation of unemployment.

In the event that the company had paid the vacation for not having enjoyed it, the subsidy will be paid the day after the end of the period corresponding to these vacations.

If you submit the application after the deadline, you will have the right to have it approved from the day following the date of the application, taking into account that the days between the date on which the start of the the benefit (if it had been requested within the term) and the date on which the request was submitted.

It may be submitted through the electronic headquarters of the SEPE, at the benefits office (by appointment), at any public registry office or by administrative mail.
