Hoeneß is "catastrophically" annoyed: Bayern step up again against Süle

Niklas Süle is leaving FC Bayern for Borussia Dortmund, that's well known. In the last game with Munich, the defender is missing. Because he wants it that way, says Nagelsmann and explains his decision. Ex-President Uli Hoeneß resigns because of this.

It felt like saying goodbye last week was round. For Niklas Süle there was the championship trophy for the last time with and at FC Bayern, he was said goodbye by the fans on the fence of Munich's Allianz Arena. Yes, with a few swipes because of the songs about the "BVB-H...söhne", but also with chants of his name. The chapter FC Bayern, it lasted at least five years, it was apparently over for the 26-year-old.

Because in the last game of the season, the 2-2 draw at VfL Wolfsburg, Süle was missing from the squad. It could have been accepted as fact. But FC Bayern is also FC Bayern, because rarely does anything happen without a background noise. According to coach Julian Nagelsmann, the future BVB defender was absent of his own free will. During the "final training session, he no longer felt so ready to be deployed.

Honorary President Uli Hoeneß could not let that stand. "That doesn't speak for the player. We always talk about appreciation... Niklas Süle certainly didn't show that to the club. I found this action catastrophic," he said in a media round on the sidelines of the championship celebration.

However, there is a history that does not speak so immensely against Süle: "We actually planned to fill the squad completely and only take players with us who will still be there next year," said the Bayern coach. Originally, Süle wasn't supposed to go to Wolfsburg at all. Due to Marcel Sabitzer's absence, however, he became an issue again for the Wolfsburg game.

"We asked him if he still wanted to come with us, so he said 'rather not' because he hadn't prepared for it now. And that's why we left him at home," Nagelsmann continued. Bayern then went to Wolfsburg with just 19 players. The coach obviously didn't want to force Süle, who, according to the coach's logic, would only have gotten a place on the bench anyway, to travel away.

Hoeneß apparently did not want to accept these facts. He even went further against Süle, who justified his move to BVB primarily with the appreciation shown to him. "Right from the first contact I felt that those responsible at the club were very keen to work with me," he told the "Bild" newspaper. His advisor Volker Struth also explained that the financial aspect was ultimately not the decisive point: “Niklas also had other options, including some that would have made him more money club decided." Hoeneß now commented: "You can all forget the myth that he earns less in Dortmund than in Munich."

The conciliatory farewell from Munich, it is not granted to Süle.
