Handball: Second Champions League defeat for THW Kiel

THW Kiel suffered its second defeat in the preliminary round of the Champions League. The North Germans lost 37:40 (19:19) at the Polish title holder KS Kielce on Thursday. The best thrower from Kiel was the Swedish backcourt player Eric Johansson with nine goals. Alex Dujshebaev and Szymon Sicko each scored seven goals for the hosts.

The game had a lot of pace from the start. The Poles, who had only lost the final in a penalty throw against FC Barcelona last season, scored one or two goals, but the North Germans didn't let themselves be left behind and equalized again and again. In the 21st minute, Andreas Wolff showed his skills in the Kielce goal. Within a few seconds, the German national keeper saved against Johansson, Patrick Wiencek and Rune Dahmke.

Even after the change of sides, the pace remained high. Now, however, it was the "Zebras" who gained a small advantage by using the seventh field player. Two minutes before the final whistle, Andreas Wolff saved a penalty throw by Magnus Landin. In return, Alex Dujshebaev made the decision. Kiel have been waiting for a competitive win against Poland for more than ten years.
