After a week of trial and a day and a half of deliberations, the crime of Fernando Iglesias, the prisoner who did not return from a prison permit to the Pereiro de Aguiar prison (in Orense), has been seen for sentencing. The popular jury has considered the two defendants, who were being tried for these events, guilty of a crime of murder and another of continued fraud.

The nine members of the jury have considered the two defendants responsible for the death of Iglesias Espiño, although not unanimously. In the case of Francisco Javier G.H., it has gone ahead by a majority of eight, and of Óscar, by a majority of seven. In addition, both have been considered guilty of another fraud, this time unanimously.

The event dates back to 2018 when the prisoner, who was in prison for having killed his wife and two children in 1996, did not return after a prison permit. Then, the investigators pointed out that two fellow prisoners, whom he had known in prison, decided to hatch a plan to end his life to keep the money from an inheritance that, they knew, he had just received.

The Prosecutor's Office requested for the two defendants sentences of up to 20 years in prison for each one as authors of a crime of murder and another two years, in the case of Francisco Javier for a continued crime of fraud and three, in the case of Óscar, for the aggravating circumstance of recidivism.

The lawyers of the defendants, who requested acquittal for both, understanding that "there are no traces" that allow their clients to be convicted, have advanced that they are going to appeal the ruling, in the absence of the opinion of the Provincial Court of Ourense.
