Government: Günther: Unanimous state demand for energy price caps

Schleswig-Holstein's Prime Minister Daniel Günther welcomed the Prime Ministers' joint call for an energy price cap. "We have made a joint decision of all 16 states and now we have a really good basis for the consultations with the federal government on October 4th," said the CDU politician on Wednesday evening in Berlin after talks with the heads of state. Now quick decisions are important.

"There is a clear commitment from all 16 countries to an energy price cap for electricity, gas and heat," said Günther. It is important that this cap comes for private households and companies that are groaning under the enormously high costs in winter. "We have agreed that we also need a protective shield for the municipal utilities at the federal level, which is of course also supported by the states."

Economic aid is also necessary for small and medium-sized businesses and crafts, said Günther. Negotiations with the federal government about the distribution of the financial burden are planned for Tuesday. "But here too there is a 16 to 0 position of all states towards the federal government, where we really propose a fair sharing of the burden between the federal and state governments." He is confident that things can now go quickly.
