Quebecer Pierre-Luc Dubois and Dylan Cozens were the two counters for the maple leaf during the breakaway session. In regulation time, Anderson eluded goalkeeper Jon Gillies to tie the game with less than three minutes to go. He also participated in the net of Cole Sillinger early in the last twenty. Cozens scored Canada's first goal, completing a streak from Dubois and Nicolas Roy.

Logan Thompson and Matt Tomkins shared the job in front of head coach Claude Julien's men's goal. The former gave up once on 16 shots, while the latter allowed two goals on 11 shots.

In the American camp, Alex Galchenyuk hit the target in a shootout. Kieffer Bellows, Karson Kuhlman and former Habs Riley Barber scored. Gillies gave up all three goals for the winners after Strauss Mann was perfect on 11 shots.

Canada will open the tournament by playing Germany on Friday. The same day, the Americans will rub shoulders with Latvia.
