German weather service: black ice in northern Bavaria - overall decreasing risk

While the danger of black ice is decreasing in large parts of Germany, people in eastern central Germany will have to continue to prepare for it on Tuesday. The German Weather Service (DWD) issued new official severe weather warnings for black ice for areas in northern Bavaria and for southern areas in Thuringia and Saxony. These initially apply until 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

The reason for the warnings is a new rainy area over northern Bavaria and southern Thuringia, as a DWD meteorologist said. The rain moving east could fall again on frozen ground during the night and in the morning and quickly cause dangerous black ice on the roads. Storms cannot be ruled out. People would have to reckon with impairments on the roads and in rail traffic.

Also in the middle of Germany, the weather service warns at night and in the morning in some areas of ice due to freezing wet. Storms are not expected to occur there. There is also a low risk of ice in the south and north-east.

In the north and west of Germany, the danger of black ice has initially been averted given the warmer temperatures. In addition, it should remain dry. "Even in Baden-Württemberg and southern Bavaria there is definitely some relaxation," said the meteorologist.

It's expected to get much warmer on Tuesday. The DWD even expects maximum values of up to 13 degrees in North Rhine-Westphalia. The danger of black ice should also decrease in the course of the day in the eastern center of Germany.
