Future of Chelsea's N'Golo Kanté: Is there even a threat of the end of his career?

N'Golo Kanté has not played a game since August. The Chelsea pro is suffering from a stubborn hamstring injury and will likely be out of the blues for a few more months. Former French national player Frank Leboeuf even says that the 31-year-old could end his career.

As Chelsea coach Graham Potter confirmed, Kanté will be out at least until the end of February, possibly even until March. The midfielder continues to struggle with muscular problems in his hamstrings.

What Kanté's future holds beyond the season is uncertain. With the 2018 world champion's contract expiring in the summer, he could leave the Blues on a free transfer. The prerequisite for this, however, is that Kanté can return to the pitch at all.

The French ex-national player and current TV expert Frank Leboeuf recently expressed doubts about this. "I haven't spoken to him about his fitness level but he may be nearing the end of his career," Leboeuf told website SafeBettingSItes. "Retirement is also part of career and you have to find the right time to retire."

Kanté moved to Chelsea in 2016 after the sensational championship with Leicester City for 35.8 million euros and has since played 262 games for the Blues and won the championship, the Champions League, the Europa League and the Club World Cup once each.
