Free time: Start of the summer season in the Spreewald

In the Spreewald, the summer season for boat trips has opened. In Schlepzig (district of Dahme-Spreewald) the first boats set off on Saturday. There were not only visitors, but also brass musicians and members of the Lübben women's choir in Sorbian-Wendish festive costumes. Mayor Werner Hämmerling (independent) had previously presented the pack, the traditional wooden pole for moving the barge, to harbor master Mike Böttcher.

On Saturday was also the start of the season for boat trips in other places in the Spreewald, for example in Lübben and in Lübbenau (Oberspreewald-Lausitz district). By the end of October, the barges should again be on the move several times a day. The punts are moved with the pack by pushing off on the Spreewald rivers - some of them are quite narrow. The Spreewald is one of the most popular holiday regions in Brandenburg. With around 2.1 million overnight stays each, the Spreewald and the Seenland-Oder-Spree were the most popular travel destinations in the state in 2022.

The season has also started for the palaces and parks of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg. Some houses that were closed in winter can now be rediscovered: In the new chambers of Sanssouci, for example, late Frederician rococo interior art can be seen again, as the foundation announced. The palace kitchen Sanssouci and the historic mill also opened their doors.
