Forecast: wintry weather with lots of sun at the beginning of spring

High "Hazal" ensures calm and sunny, but also wintry weather in Germany at the meteorological beginning of spring. "We are facing a very quiet phase of (late) winter - which will last well into the second half of the coming week and thus until the beginning of the meteorological spring, which will arrive on March 1st," explained Martin Jonas from the German Weather Service (DWD) on Monday in Offenbach. And: "It is quite wintery according to the season with light to moderate frost at night."

The sky is expected to be mostly sunny on Tuesday, although it will remain dry. Temperatures are forecast to rise to between 0 and 8 degrees. In the southwest and in higher low mountain ranges, strong gusty north-easterly winds can pick up at times with individual stiff gusts. On the night of Wednesday it will therefore remain free of precipitation with lows of minus 1 to minus 7 degrees.

Clouds possible in the north

Meteorologists are again expecting plenty of sunshine on Wednesday. Only in the extreme north and north-east can areas of dense cloud cover build up, but it is also expected to remain dry there. The maximum values should be between 2 and 9 degrees. In the north it will be slightly windy, otherwise moderate wind will blow from northeast to east.

On Thursday it will be partly cloudy in the north and from the Black Forest to the Alps. Otherwise, the DWD predicts a lot of sunshine again, it should generally remain dry. Temperatures will rise to 3 to 10 degrees with the higher values in the southwest and west. In the north it should be slightly windy.

The meteorological spring starts this Wednesday (March 1st). For statistical reasons, too, the researchers calculate their data in whole months. The astronomical or calendar beginning of spring is on March 20th this year. At this point, the sun is vertically above the equator and is now moving north.
